Ringing Today

Please do not be alarmed if you see hands on the scrap and the chick disappear for a few minutes this evening. The Team from BORG will be ringing the chick this evening. I will post the statistics as soon as i have them available for you. Every year we gets lots of questions, the main one about the eggs being left. To reassure you all please see the message below from out experts. It is perfectly normal for the birds to leave eggs and indeed young chicks on their own for varying periods. When the first few eggs are laid this can be for some period of time- it doesn't matter if the eggs get cold at this stage. They only start incubating in ernest once the last egg is laid ( hopefully 4 ). One of the birds is usually very close by in these periods of absence (perhaps within 15ft), so there is an element of protection but you just can't see the bird on the camera.
